core training sensible?

Newbie
I've been training for many years and have done 5X5 compound lifting, split routines and full body workouts. have always loved the big lifts but now getting into my 40's i want to try something different. would it make sense to ONLY train core lifts for a couple months to see if my body reacts or is that stupid?
 
i recommend this for people who are burned out or they just need a break from the pounding. try pyro pilates, it will work your core like no other.
 
I think it is always great to switch training styles up. Worst case you try it and hate it. You can always go back to something else. What I like to do is read about all the different routines out there and make my own based on the exercises I like.
