weight gain post miscarriage

I'm a 5'3" female and a year ago I had a miscarriage, following that incident I weighed in at 115 pounds and got back into training. since then I have gained a lot of weight and now I am 150 pounds. I am following the advice of a personal trainer and only eating 800 calories a day, also my bloodwork is normal. any idea what could have caused this? is 800-900 calories enough?
 
Your calories are too low you're lowering your metabolic rate too much. You need to boost your calories at least to BMR and -5% up and down.
 
hormones dictate weight change, NOT calories in/out. this has been proven by actual studies. crashing your calories will actually screw up your metabolic rate further so you aren't doing yourself any favors in that situation.
 
Please remember that it can take up to 2 years for your hormones to return to normal so be patient and don't beat yourself up. I would not be tracking and eating 800 calories per day. That is terrible advice. I recommend eating the right foods and eating in a window.
 
I would get a new trainer. For what you describe I would start with Getting your BMR read to figure out where to place you in a caloric deficit.

My advice, even to my own wife - start small, take a drop of 200 calories and remember: carbs and protein are 4 calories per gram and fat is 9 calories per gram. Armed with this information you can develop and tailor a slow and steady caloric deficit that doesn’t shut down your metabolism no matter if you’re low carb, low fat, etc.

Also pro-tip - cut the sodium and sugar as much as possible and hydration is key to just about everything in life. You got this!
 
Your trainer is terrible, you should be doing at least weight x 12 - 10% not lower for your bmr base.
 
I aim very low and go from there. There is almost always some calories you are not counting so aiming low covers those uncounted calories.
